A Humbling First Vote: The Beginning of Service for District 1

December 11, 20242 min read

For too long, Kansans have struggled with the ever-increasing cost of property taxes. Governor Kelly wants legislators to "take a breath" instead of passing necessary legislation to ease the burden of property taxes on Kansans.

Kansans don't have time for us to drag our feet or take a breath. Instead, they need breathing room from the burden of sky-high property taxes. That’s why passing property tax relief legislation is job one when the House returns to session in January. - Speaker of the House, Dan Hawkins

Kansas House of Representatives

Last week I had the privilege of sitting in the Kansas House Chamber and cast my first vote.  Though the session will not start till January 13, we voted for our Republican Leadership.

Sitting in the chamber I was humbled and awestruck at the opportunity to serve Kansas.  I realize every vote will affect the lives of those residing in Kansas.  That is a responsibility I do not take lightly and I am thankful that you have entrusted me with that duty.

House of Rep. Kansas

I spent several days in Topeka with other freshmen preparing to officially take office in January.  During that time I found myself going back to the chamber, taking in the history and importance of what happens in that room.  I was encouraged how many of the other freshman held the same values I do and that they had received the same mandate from their constituents as I.  The task of working to make lives better for all Kansans and stop government overreach and waste.

Speaker of the House Dan Hawkins released a statement that I believe sets the tone for the 2025 session.  He stated “For too long, Kansans have struggled with the ever-increasing cost of property taxes. Governor Kelly wants legislators to 'take a breath' instead of passing necessary legislation to ease the burden of property taxes on Kansans.

Kansans don't have time for us to drag our feet or take a breath. Instead, they need breathing room from the burden of sky-high property taxes. That’s why passing property tax relief legislation is job one when the House returns to session in January.”

With this type of  resolve from my fellow representatives, I anxiously wait to start the 2025 legislative session where we can begin to enact positive change for Kansas.
